Are we making progress?

The percentage of households which continue to burn wood and paraffin for cooking are given in the table and figure above.  It is notable that electricity accounted for 63% of the total energy consumed by the residential sector during 2006, a marked increase since 2001.  The remainder of the energy consumed was provided largely by the combustion of wood (15.5%), and paraffin (16%).  The use of coal has decreased to 2%.
 
The percentage of households which continue to burn wood and paraffin for heating requirements are given in the table and figure above.  It is notable that electricity accounted for 50% for heating of the total energy consumed by the residential sector during 2006, a marked increase since 2001.  The remainder of the energy consumed was provided largely by the combustion of wood (20%), and paraffin (13.6%).  The use of coal has decreased to 4.6%.
